    Survey Question Types

Every question type you can add to a survey, what guests see, and when to use each one.

Every survey question type explained: text, email, phone, choice, rating, photo capture, upload, image select, AI dynamic prompts, and the In-line and Post-AI processors, with use cases for each.

    Adding a question

The survey builder offers 19 question types, from simple text boxes to photo capture and AI image generation. Pick the type that matches the answer you need: the type decides what the guest sees, how the answer is validated, and whether it can be mapped onto the design or used inside an AI prompt. Guests see the questions one at a time in the order you set. Build the survey itself by following Surveys.

    1. 1

      Open the survey

Go to Surveys in the admin area and open an existing survey or create a new one.

    2. 2

      Add a question

Choose Add Question and pick a type from the list.

    3. 3

      Fill in the settings

Give the question a title, an optional description, and mark it required if guests must answer. Each type then shows its own settings, described below.

    4. 4

      Reorder and test

Drag questions into the order guests should see them, then preview the survey to try each type as a guest would.

    Text and contact inputs

Use these when you need to type or pick a single value from the guest. These are the most common types to map onto text layers of the design. Single Choice, Dropdown, and Yes/No can be mapped onto text layers too, so the option the guest picks is printed as text.

    Short Text

A single-line text box with an optional placeholder. Ideal for a name, nickname, or short message to print on the design.

    Long Text

A multi-line text area for longer answers such as a greeting, a wish, or feedback.

    Email

An email field that checks the format and shows an inline error for an invalid address. Use it to collect a contact address for follow-ups.

    Phone

A phone number field with a country-code picker. Set the default country code so guests in your region do not have to change it.

    Number

A numeric field with optional minimum and maximum values, such as an age, a table number, or a quantity.

    Date

A calendar date picker. Choose the date format that is saved and, optionally, a start and end date to limit what guests can pick, such as a wedding or birthday date.

    Choice and rating questions

Use these when you want consistent answers that are easy to count and filter in your results. Single Choice, Dropdown, and Yes/No answers can also be mapped onto text layers of the design, just like text inputs, so the guest's selected option appears as text on the print.

    Single Choice

Large tap-friendly options where the guest picks exactly one, such as a size, a color, or a station.

    Multiple Choice

Options the guest can tick in any combination, such as interests or add-ons.

    Dropdown

A compact menu for long lists, such as a department, a team, or a city, where a full list of buttons would take too much room.

    Yes/No

Two large buttons. You can rename them, for example "Yes, please" and "Not today", to fit the question.

    Rating

A star scale. Set how many stars it has to collect a quick satisfaction score at the end of the experience.

    Photo and image questions

These types bring a picture into the experience. A photo answer can be mapped onto an image placeholder on the design, so the guest's own picture appears on the final print.

    Photo Capture

Takes a selfie with the device camera. Choose the aspect ratio, add an optional countdown timer that can start automatically, set the flash mode, and hide the front/back camera switcher if guests should only use one camera.

    Upload Photo

Lets guests upload a picture from their device. Turn on QR upload so guests can send the photo from their own phone by scanning a code, and hide the standard upload button when you only want the QR option.

    Image Select

Guests choose from images you upload, each with its own label. Use it for styles, characters, backgrounds, or products. Each option can also carry its own AI transformation.

On a shared kiosk, QR upload keeps guests from handing the tablet around and lets them choose a photo from their own camera roll.

    AI Dynamic Prompt questions

The three photo types also come in an AI Dynamic Prompt version. The photo or image the guest provides is transformed by an AI prompt that can include their earlier answers, so each guest gets a personalized result.

    Photo Capture (AI Dynamic Prompt)

Take a selfie and transform it right away. Add several named prompts, each with its own aspect ratio, and optionally let guests edit the prompt text.

    Upload Photo (AI Dynamic Prompt)

Transform an uploaded photo, including one sent from a phone by QR code, using a prompt built from earlier answers.

    Image Select (AI Dynamic Prompt)

Guests choose from predefined images, and each option can carry an AI prompt that uses their earlier answers. With more than one option, guests see them as a card grid; style it in AI Prompt / Image Option Card Grid.

Prompts can only refer to earlier questions of these types: Short Text, Long Text, Single Choice, Multiple Choice, Dropdown, Number, and Yes/No. Insert a placeholder such as {Q1-Your favorite animal} from the buttons above the prompt box. Put the questions you want to reference first.

    AI processors

Processors are not questions guests answer. They take an image from an earlier question and run more AI on it. They are covered in depth, with a full recipe, in Advanced Use Cases.

    In-line AI Processor

Pick a source question (an Image Select, Photo Capture, or Upload Photo question that comes before it), add one or more AI prompts, and choose how many images to generate at once, from 1 to 6. The guest sees the results straight away, taps the one they like. Several prompts appear as a card grid of styles, and a prompt can be editable by the guest. It ignores any AI prompt set on the source question. It works on its own; you do not need a Post-AI Processor.

    Post-AI Processor

Runs silently after the guest submits the survey, so the guest never sees it. For each source question you choose one action: use the original input image as is, process the original image with a prompt, or process the AI output image with a prompt. Use it to restyle or clean up a result that was already generated. It is always placed after the other questions. It works on its own or together with an In-line AI Processor.

Each generated image uses AI credits, so keep the number of outputs modest at busy events. See Billing & Credits for how credits work.

    Which type for which job

A quick guide to matching a goal to a question type.

Print a name or message on the design

Use Short Text or Long Text, then map the answer onto a text layer in Mapping answers onto a design.

    Collect leads and follow-up details

Use Email, Phone, and a Yes/No question for permission to contact. Answers appear in Manage Responses and can be sent to your own systems with a webhook.

    Offer sizes, colors, or options

Use Single Choice or Dropdown, then read the answer off the response for fulfillment. This is the building block of the store recipe.

Put the guest's face on the design

Use Photo Capture or Upload Photo and map it onto an image placeholder.

    Turn a photo into artwork

Use an AI Dynamic Prompt type, or an In-line AI Processor if guests should choose between several results.

    Measure the experience

End with a Rating question and compare the scores in the responses table or the CSV export.
